Overview
This page consists of the noteworthy details of this site's design.
This is a limited purpose website, namely, to support marketing to SEO client prospects, for which a minimalist design is appropriate.
The navigation scheme is a very simple one: a right floating DIV containing a list of the site's sections most of which are a single page. The site's size does not warrant a site map.
The pages of the site all all
validated
to the
HTML 4.0 Strict standard
with
one
exception. In the result, the appearance of pages is entirely controlled by
a set of stylesheets which have been developed and are in use as the foundation
for dozens of websites and, accordingly, makes producing the site's content
very efficient. The standards compliance and these
advanced techniques are examples of my work methodology.
One of the benefits of this methodology is the coding of people,
organization, publications, etc. which you will see in his site's pages as
highlighting or some other text attribute. Another is the use of the TITLE attribute of links; hover (put your cursor) over a link and a tooltip
will appear which assists you in evaluating whether to click that link as well
as whether the link is to a page on this site or offsite.
The rest of this page is technical stuff which you can skip by going to the last paragraph of this page.
Non-compliant browsers
If you saw the red bordered warning text on this site's home page, your browser does not support accepted web standards (or you have CSS turned off).
To learn about upgrading your browser, go to the
The Web Standards
Project's browser
upgrade
page. The
importance of web standards compliance is explained on that page and there are
links to all of the major browsers' upgrade pages. Upgrades are free so there
is a very good reason to do so you'll see the best websites as they were
designed to be seen.
This site has been designed for web standards compliant browsers and those browsers represent the overwhelming majority of people on the web.
The one
exception to which I refer in the preceding section is the
home
page which is HTML 4.0 Transitional solely because of
the inclusion of the IFRAME object which is seen only by users of non-compliant browsers. That page
otherwise validates to the HTML 4.0 Strict
specification.
Select a stylesheet
Stylesheets are used to control the way a page is displayed including fonts and their sizes.
You may change the stylesheet for the pages of this site and that change will persist for subsequent pages unless you have session cookies turned off.
The section titled Stylesheets in the right column of each page contains the links. You have three choices:
- The default stylesheet link sets the stylesheet to the one used on your arrival at this site.
- The alternate stylesheet link is a stylesheet with larger heading and body text suitable for screen resolutions such as 1600 x 1200.
- The print stylesheet link is one which is suitable for printing a page because it turns off the display of all images as well as other components such as the right column menu. In addition, it reduces the size of text considerably. You still have to use your browser's command to actually print a page.
Your standards compliant v6 browser provides a simpler although less powerful method of changing the text size of these or any other pages. You have the option of changing all text displayed to a larger or smaller size:
- in Internet Explorer 4+, go to on the menu (or the button on the standard toolbar); and
- Netscape Navigator, go to or on the menu.
Finally, some of the later versions of Mozilla and Netscape 6.x allow you to choose an alternate stylesheet. In Netscape 6.1, go to the menu and select . You will be presented options allowing you to change to one of the stylesheets I offer.
